Out of all of the Dead's studio output, this one and 's 'Built to Last' seem to be the two albums that divide Deadheads. Some Deadheads will praise 's 'Shakedown Street' for being different and risky in the Dead's catalogue (I think the Dead took chances here and created music on this one that they would never attempt to do again); others will say that it is a mess and a horrendously /5().

About “Fire on the Mountain” 2 contributors This song off the Grateful Dead’s album Shakedown Street really grew its legs in a live setting (as would be the case with many Dead songs).

This can make Shakedown Street a bit of a difficult, dated listen, since even the good songs boast bad arrangements ("Shakedown Street" and "Fire on the Mountain" were later reworked and revitalized in concert), yet it falls short of flat-out disaster, partially because it's a fascinating listen due to the very things that make it a severely.

" Fire on the Mountain " is a song by the Grateful Dead. It was written by lyricist Robert Hunter and composed by drummer Mickey Hart. It was commercially released on the album Shakedown Street in November An earlier instrumental version titled "Happiness is Drumming" appeared in on Mickey Hart's album Diga with the Diga Rhythm Band.

Shakedown Street is the tenth studio album by rock band the Grateful Dead, released November 15, on Arista Records. The album came just over a year after previous studio album Terrapin was the final album for Keith and Donna Jean Godchaux, who left the band a few months after its record was produced by Lowell George (of Little Feat) and John Kahn.

The I Ching contains a hexagram, #56, titled variously “The Traveler,” “Travel,” “The Stranger,” and so on. It is represented by the two trigrams of fire and mountain, with fire resting on mountain. I have received quite a bit of mail over the years with convincing interpretations of how this applies or might apply to the Dead, or to the scene, or to world politics, or to the.

Editors’ Notes Shakedown Street's title track shows the Dead adapting shockingly well to the disco era, transforming their normal rhythmic interplay into a slick, grooving strut. The remainder of the album sees them tackling similarly funky sounds. The rough-edged blues of "I Need a Miracle" and the Caribbean-tinged "Fire On the Mountain" would become setlist staples, and their Latin.
